Three seidlas from 2010

Glad to hear you made it to Pretzfeld! A very promising, lovely little brewery there. That will be my Seidla Nummer Eins; this new place isn't getting enough attention and praise. Seidla Nummer Zwei und Drei (in no particular order) shall be the most excellent Festbier from Meister in Unterzaunsbach and especially the Weihnachtsfestbier from Krug in Breitenlesau. Both are beautifully rich, malty, very dark but well-balanced Festbier(s) at around 5.5% ABV. The Krug is especially nice because it's far, far better than their pale-ish, almost sickly sweet Annafestbier. Think of a jacked-up Festbier version of the regular malty, dark Krug Lager. If only the Münchener could learn something about Festbier from the Franken! And now to take on the role of negative Nellie: I just don't get all the love for the "Zoigl" from Trabelsdorf. Each time I've had it --in Franken and in Rome-- it's been a bit thin and husky, astringent-bitter without a balancing hop character. His other beers though, the extr3m3 ones brewed for the non-German palate, have been very nice. Too strong for me, of course. Would like to see him try his hand at a low-gravity citric-hopped pale ale! Will be very interesting to see what he does with the new brewery.
