Firstly I'll say this place looks nice.  I wouldn't go out of my way for it but if I ever find myself in Bayreuth for a couple of days then I would check it.  A nice juicy steak and some IPA in a nice pub.  Sure, why not?

I don't necessarily agree with you though Barry that this is an Amercanization of European brewing concepts.  If we've learned anything from reading all the material that Ron Pattinson has uncovered it is that beer styles, culture, trends, fads, etc. change over time in the UK same as anywhere else.  Sure the milds and bitters as you know them have had their extensive heyday but you could have been born in the early 1800's and found yourself drinking a XXXX Mild with 8% ABV and loads of hops.  Not for the first time we are in an age of decadence and I'm not so sure that the UK brewing culture wouldn't have arrived where it's at to some extent with or without American influence.  As much as I'd like to think that a nice steakhouse and some good "craft" beer is Americanization, since it sure is great progress over McDonalds, Coca Cola, and Budweiser, I just think we're living in an age of decadence in many parts of the world.  This is reflected in the brewing renaissance (if you'll allow me to call it that) that has occured in many countries all over the world.  I say enjoy it while it lasts because I'm sure in due time we'll be beaten down by war, politics, economic strife, plage, pesitenlence, disaster, etc. and who knows what it will look like 50 years from now.
